Dated speckled granite can pull a whole kitchen backwards, even after the doors are resprayed. Replacing stone is expensive and messy. Spraying it is neither.
How it works
The worktop is cleaned and degreased thoroughly, then keyed so the coating can bond to the stone. A specialist primer goes on, followed by the colour and a hard wearing protective top coat. The surrounding room is fully masked throughout.
The finishes
Plain solid colours in warm white, stone, grey or charcoal suit most kitchens. Subtle stone effect finishes are also possible if you want movement in the surface rather than a flat colour.
How durable is it
The top coat is chosen for worktop use, so it resists day to day wear and cleaning. As with any worktop, use a board rather than cutting on the surface and a trivet under hot pans, and it will hold up well.
Doing it with a cabinet respray
Most people have the worktop sprayed at the same time as the units. It saves a second round of masking and means the colours are chosen together rather than trying to match later.
