Two Tone Kitchen Ideas

Where the split should fall, and which colour goes where.

In a two tone kitchen the darker colour goes on the base units and island and the lighter colour on the wall units. That keeps the room feeling tall and open while giving it weight at floor level. It costs no more than a single colour respray.

The rule that makes it work

Dark below, light above. Reverse it and the room feels top heavy, because the eye reads the heavier colour as closing the ceiling in.

The exception is a very large open plan room with high ceilings, where a darker run of tall units can work as a deliberate block.

Combinations we spray most

Warm off white above with sage green below is the most requested. Soft grey above with navy below is the sharper alternative.

For period houses, an off white with a muted heritage green or a deep clay tone suits the proportions better than anything cool.

Pulling it together

Handles in brass or matt black across both colours tie the two halves together and stop the split reading as accidental.

Carrying the darker colour onto the plinth reinforces the base, while the cornice stays with the lighter wall units.
