Spraying MDF Kitchen Doors
The easiest material to respray, and the best result.
MDF kitchen doors are the ideal material for respraying. The surface is dense and grain free, so once degreased, keyed and primed it takes a sprayed coating perfectly evenly. The result is a flat, factory like finish with no grain showing through and no brush marks.
Why MDF sprays so well
MDF has no grain to raise and no movement between boards, so the coating sits flat across the whole face of the door.
Sprayed shaker profiles in MDF look particularly crisp because the coating reaches into the corners of the beading evenly rather than pooling as a brush would leave it.
The preparation that matters
Cut edges and any previously chipped areas are sealed first, because bare MDF edges drink primer and would otherwise dry patchy.
Doors are degreased, keyed, and given a bonding primer before the colour coats go on.
Any weaknesses to know about
MDF and water do not get along. If a door near the sink or dishwasher has already swollen, the swelling has to be addressed before coating or it will read through the finish.
We will tell you honestly at quote stage if a door is past saving.
