Melamine Kitchen Cabinets Respray

Yes they can, and the preparation is what decides it.

Melamine faced kitchen cabinets can be sprayed successfully. The surface is smooth and non porous, so it has to be degreased and keyed thoroughly and then given a bonding primer made to grip laminate. Once that base is right, the colour coats behave exactly as they do on MDF and the finish is flat and even.

Why melamine needs more preparation

Melamine is designed to resist staining and moisture, which is the same property that makes coatings struggle to bond to it.

Keying the surface gives the primer something mechanical to hold, and the bonding primer does the chemical half of the job.

What to check before booking

Look at the edges. Where melamine has chipped or lifted away from the board, usually near a dishwasher or kettle, that section has to be dealt with first.

Doors that are otherwise flat and intact spray up extremely well, and 1990s and 2000s melamine kitchens are a large part of what we do.
