Kitchen Door Replacement vs Respray

Two ways to change the doors, with very different trade offs.

Replacement doors change the profile as well as the colour, but they must be available in your unit sizes and they cost considerably more once fitting is counted. A respray keeps the profile, costs €700 to €3000 for the whole kitchen, takes 1 to 3 days and gives you any colour you want.

The sizing problem

Replacement doors have to match the existing carcass sizes and hinge positions. On older or non standard kitchens, that is often the point where the plan stalls.

A respray has no such constraint, because the doors you already have are the doors being finished.

When replacement wins

If you actively dislike the door profile, for example wanting to move from heavy raised panel to a flat slab or a shaker, no finish will give you that.

If several doors are already damaged or warped, the comparison narrows too.

When spraying wins

Where the profile is fine and only the colour has dated, which is the vast majority of kitchens we see, spraying is far cheaper and quicker.

It also covers the end panels, plinths and frames in the same colour, which replacement doors alone do not.
