The best paint for kitchen cabinets is a sprayed cabinet lacquer applied over the correct primer, not a standard wall or woodwork paint. Professional water based and two pack lacquers cure to a hard, wipeable film that resists knocks, grease and cleaning products, and sprayed application leaves no brush marks on the flat face of a door.
Primer does most of the work
Adhesion failure, not the topcoat, is what makes painted cabinets chip and peel. The surface has to be degreased, hand keyed and then primed with a product matched to the material: a bonding primer on melamine, vinyl wrap and thermofoil, a stain blocking primer on oak and other open grain timbers to stop tannin bleed.
Skip that and even the best topcoat will lift at the edges within a year.

Curing matters as much as drying
Cabinet coatings are touch dry within hours but keep hardening for two to three weeks. During that window, wipe gently, avoid harsh cleaners and do not stack items against the doors. After curing, the finish handles normal kitchen cleaning without issue.
